Who we need
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, we are hiring a Sample Support Technician to join our Environmental Services laboratory. As our new Sample Support Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring environmental samples move efficiently through the laboratory from the moment they arrive. You will prepare, sort, track, and distribute samples while supporting sample preparation activities that enable accurate testing and timely reporting. Working closely with technicians across multiple laboratory teams, you will help maintain quality, meet client turnaround times, and contribute to the smooth operation of a fast-paced laboratory environment.
This is an existing, permanent full-time position based in our Mississauga laboratory, working onsite five days a week, Monday to Friday.

How you will make an impact
Prepare environmental samples. You will prepare soil, rock, water, air, and other environmental samples for laboratory analysis using a variety of preparation methods and equipment, including drying, grinding, sieving, and sample splitting. You will ensure every sample is handled accurately while preventing cross-contamination.
Coordinate sample flow. You will receive, scan, sort, and distribute hundreds of samples each day to laboratory workstations while tracking their progress using our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). You will help ensure priority samples are processed quickly and turnaround times are consistently met.
Maintain quality and safety. You will follow established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and health and safety protocols while maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring equipment, workspaces, and supplies remain organized and audit-ready.
Support laboratory operations. You will retrieve archived samples, assist with inventory and housekeeping, communicate with laboratory teams regarding sample locations and priorities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the department.

- The communication skills. You enjoy working as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues to keep work moving efficiently across the laboratory.
- The technical foundation. You have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and are comfortable learning new systems. Previous experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, production, warehouse, or similarly process-driven environment is an asset. A diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related discipline is welcomed but not required. We value relevant experience and a willingness to learn.
- The physical capability. You are comfortable standing and walking throughout your shift, lifting up to 40 pounds, and working in a physically active laboratory environment. You understand the importance of following safety procedures and using personal protective equipment.

- The salary for this role is $21 per hour. Our salary ranges reflect the range of skills and experience required for the posted position. The final offer amount for this role will depend on geographical region, applicable experience, internal equity, and the skillset of the candidate.
