Who we need

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor – Microbiology, we are hiring a Microbiology Analyst to join our Environmental Services laboratory in Mississauga. As our new Microbiology Analyst, you will play an essential role in supporting drinking water testing by preparing, processing, and analyzing microbiological samples with accuracy and consistency. Working in a regulated laboratory environment, you will follow established methods and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure high-quality, reliable results while contributing to the safe and timely delivery of testing services for our clients. This is a permanent, full-time afternoon shift position based in our Mississauga laboratory.

This is an existing, permanent full-time position based in our Mississauga laboratory. The regular shift is 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with overtime required based on operational needs. Our laboratory operates seven days a week, and this role includes weekend work on a rotating schedule with advance notice.

How you will make an impact

  • Analyze microbiology samples. You will prepare, process, and analyze drinking water samples using approved microbiological methods while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and ensuring all testing meets quality and turnaround time requirements.
  • Maintain quality and compliance. You will follow Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and ISO 17025 requirements to ensure accurate, reliable, and compliant laboratory results. You will identify and communicate any sample, process, or quality concerns while supporting corrective actions when required.
  • Operate laboratory equipment. You will safely operate, maintain, and monitor laboratory instruments and equipment used in microbiological testing while ensuring your work area remains organized, clean, and inspection-ready.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory team. You will work closely with colleagues and supervisors to prioritize daily workloads, communicate potential delays, support continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to a positive, team-focused laboratory environment.
  • Support a safe workplace. You will follow all Bureau Veritas Health & Safety policies, safely handle laboratory materials, participate in training and audits when required, and contribute to maintaining a safe laboratory environment.

What you bring

  • The microbiology foundation. You have gained knowledge of microbiology through a degree, diploma, or relevant coursework that has provided you with an understanding of microbiological principles, sterile technique, and laboratory practices. Previous microbiology laboratory experience is an asset but not required.
  • The attention to detail. You understand the importance of accuracy and consistency in a regulated laboratory environment. You are comfortable following detailed procedures and recognize the importance of producing reliable, high-quality results.
  • The mindset. You are proactive, dependable, and eager to learn. You enjoy working collaboratively while also taking ownership of your responsibilities and managing your work independently.
  • The flexibility. You are available to work the regular afternoon shift of 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., participate in a rotating weekend schedule, and work overtime when operational needs require it.
  • The physical capability. You are comfortable working in a laboratory environment that involves prolonged standing and regularly lifting and moving materials weighing up to 40 lbs.

Compensation 

  • This posting is for an existing vacancy 
  • The salary for this role is $19 per hour.  Our salary ranges reflect the range of skills and experience required for the posted position. The final offer amount for this role will depend on geographical region, applicable experience, internal equity, and the skillset of the candidate.
