Who we need
Reporting to the Department Manager, we are hiring a Laboratory Supervisor to lead a team within our environmental testing laboratory.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines people management, operational oversight, data review, and quality assurance. You will be responsible for ensuring laboratory operations run efficiently, analytical results are accurate and defensible, and turnaround times are consistently achieved.
Leading a team of approximately five employees, you will work closely with laboratory staff, project managers, sample logistics, quality assurance, and other laboratory leaders to maintain productivity, support continuous improvement, and foster a collaborative team environment.
This is a fully onsite position located in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Support sample reception operations. You will receive, unpack, organize, and process environmental samples while ensuring accurate documentation and timely entry into laboratory systems.
Lead and develop your team. Recruit, coach, mentor, and support employees while fostering engagement, accountability, and professional growth.
Drive laboratory operations. Manage daily workflows, monitor production targets, coordinate staffing priorities, and ensure turnaround times are achieved.
Ensure quality and accuracy. Review and validate analytical data, support quality systems, and ensure compliance with laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements.
Support continuous improvement. Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and productivity while contributing to the department's long-term growth strategy.
Champion safety and compliance. Promote a strong safety culture, ensure adherence to health and safety requirements, and support quality assurance programs and audits.
What you bring
- Technical expertise. You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant laboratory experience will be considered.
- Laboratory systems & data analysis. You have experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. You are comfortable reviewing analytical data and working within established quality systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance.
- Quality & laboratory operations. You understand regulated laboratory environments and are familiar with laboratory workflows, quality standards, and production expectations. Experience with Statistical Quality Control (SQC), control charts, and environmental or pharmaceutical testing laboratories is considered a strong asset.
- Leadership in a lab setting. You bring leadership experience in a laboratory environment, whether formal, acting, project-based, or as a team lead. You are comfortable coordinating work, supporting peers, and contributing to smooth day-to-day operations.
- Professional skills & working style. You are a collaborative, proactive, and adaptable professional who thrives in fast-paced, production-driven environments. You combine strong organizational and prioritization skills with sound judgment and problem-solving ability.
