Who we need

Reporting to the Supervisor, Metals Group, we are hiring a Laboratory Technician – Metals Group Processing to join our Environmental Services laboratory in Mississauga. As our new Laboratory Technician, you will support the preparation of environmental, food, and soil samples for inorganic testing by performing laboratory preparation activities, including dilutions, reagent preparation, digestions, filtrations, and sample processing. Working within a team of experienced laboratory professionals, you will play an important role in ensuring samples are accurately prepared and ready for analysis while following strict quality, contamination control, and safety procedures.

This is a full-time, temporary contract position based at our  laboratory in Mississauga and is expected to work on-site five days per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

How you will make an impact

  • Prepare laboratory samples. You will perform sample dilutions, prepare standards, reagents, and laboratory solutions, and complete digestions, extractions, filtrations, and other sample preparation activities to support inorganic testing.
  • Maintain quality and accuracy. You will carefully follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain accurate records, verify laboratory equipment as required, and ensure samples are handled correctly to prevent cross-contamination or sample mix-ups.
  • Support laboratory operations. You will organize and prioritize work using laboratory schedules and turnaround times, contribute to daily and weekly workflow planning, and provide support to instrument analysis teams as required.
  • Promote a safe laboratory environment. You will follow all laboratory health and safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized workspace, report unsafe conditions, and contribute to a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

What you bring

  • The scientific foundation. You have gained the knowledge required for this role through education in Chemical Technology or another science-related discipline. You understand the importance of contamination control and the procedures required to maintain sample integrity in a laboratory environment.
  • The laboratory skills. You have experience with, or exposure to, laboratory preparation techniques such as reagent preparation, solution preparation, sample preparation, or dilutions. Experience in an environmental or analytical laboratory is an asset but not required.
  • The attention to detail. You are highly organized and take pride in producing accurate work. You can carefully follow established procedures, maintain detailed records, and consistently deliver quality work, even when managing multiple priorities.
  • The collaborative approach. You work well both independently and as part of a team. You communicate effectively, contribute positively to your work environment, and are always willing to support your colleagues to meet shared goals.
Compensation 
  • This posting is required to meet our seasonal capacity.
  • The salary for this role is $17.60 per hour.
